If you are fan of Beth’s holiday workshops and lockdown artclub you will love this online art club! It will add structure to your week and offer creative, mindful tasks suitable for adults and children. Each week Beth will show you resources and inspiration connected to a theme. Beth may use historical art references, contemporary artists, influencers and your own environment to shape the creative tasks she sets. Recent theme examples have been, kintsugi, houses, folky florals, mark making, painting with tea and coffee, pets, Chupa Chups, rabbits, patterned landscapes, collage and taking a line for a walk, Paul Klee style! The themes are set so they can be explored by children, teens and adults, and the tasks are set according to age not skill. So these are perfect workshops for beginner and improver artists.
During the summer term there will be particulate focus on nature and using the outdoor environment to inspire ideas and sketchbook work. If you have WiFi in the garden, then join in from there. Equally, sitting at the kitchen table will also work.
The content is delivered in a calm manner with particular attention given to focussing on student confidence and satisfaction. It is not a showcase for the best artists to show off - but a course to create art that makes you or your child happy.
During the workshop Beth will show images and talk through how they can be used to influence your own style and build skills. She will also demonstrate techniques and chat about art materials. There are lots of step-by-step demonstrations and students will feel connected as you work through the tasks together. Beths workshops will cover general art, drawing and mixed media collage and some painting! After each workshop your mind will be full of ideas to develop in your own time during the week...Beth is an ideas person - so if you need ideas to get the creative juices flowing, this is the perfect course! Beth has plenty of ideas for everybody!
How does a Beth Morris Workshop zoom workshop work?
The participants will be muted on entry to the zoom session and it is very much a listen and learn workshop. However, this does mean the energy and enthusiasm will be any less that if we were all in the same room together. There will be chats, and plenty of demonstrations to watch and you will be encouraged to engage with questions via the chat facility on zoom. The tasks will be short but inventive so will get you thinking quickly and will leave you keen to develop your creativity after the workshop.
How can the same workshop be suitable for a child and an adult?
The way Beth teaches is to encourage and develop skills of all levels and ability. Therefore as the learner you will take responsibility for following the workshops and using the knowledge acquired to produce art work.
The workshops are taught using live demonstrations. I will offer simple and harder versions of the projects, showing examples that will suit both children, teens and adults. In my in-person workshops at my studio, I often present the same task to children and adults and have found this technique produces some inspirational art work.
A child needs to be old enough to listen, engage and follow instructions. Therefore I do not advise any younger than six to attend the workshop without a parent.
As an adult you will learn and apply the knowledge gained to your own art practice.
As the workshop is primarily listening, watching and doing together, the chat is mostly from the teacher so therefore is suitable for all.
The bottom line is….art is for everybody. How many times do parents watch their kids colouring in or paint and wish that they could get involved. You are never too old or too young to be an artist!!! Let’s do this!!!
I have two children, or myself and my children all want to attend, do I buy two tickets?
The cost of the workshop is valid per household. So if you have more than one child, please only purchase one ticket. Siblings can all watch the same workshop, and families can all join in together. Or if you have an older child and fancy drawing alongside them, again you just pay per household.
I don’t have any children. Can I just do the workshop myself?
Absolutely!!
How will I access the workshop?
The night before the workshop is due to take place you will receive the zoom ID code and password. Please do not share this with anybody else. All workshops will take place promptly at the times advertised.
