12 week term with a break for half term

Taught by Beth Morris

A course for young people to escape into a creative bubble for a short while. Time spent engaging with a creative activity has been well documented as imperative for mental health in young people. This is an opportunity for students to create in a relaxed environment without the pressure of exams and assessments.

This course will explore creative journaling and sketchbooking and artistic activities linked to wellbeing. The students can bring along their dotted page notebooks/journals and will be taught the benefits of bullet journaling. Journals are the modern day equivalent of a diary but these days they are filled with visuals and imagination.

The students will develop styles, themes, learn to use stencils, create life-lists, doodle ideas, page lay-outs and how to use stickers and collage cut-outs. Some weeks we will work on mood boards, motivational quotes, slow stitching, and creative writing.

We’ll look at fashion and how to draw people and the clothes they wear, you will learn fashion illustration techniques. You will capture accurate body proportions, fabric representations, colour, pattern and create a style. We will look at fashion design, mood-boards and be inspired by fashion artists old and new. You will be taught by Beth Morris author of ‘Fashion Illustrator’ published worldwide and will use her input to create your own style.

You will also take textiles on an adventure and discover the fun side of hand stitch. Many schools are no longer offering textiles as an option, so it is an excellent way to encourage stitch as a skill, with a particular emphasis on creative freedom and stitching text, quotes and using thread as a drawing tool.

All abilities are welcome especially complete beginners! Your skills will build and improve over time. Learning about new materials and art techniques will also help you enhance your school studies in creative subjects.

This is a unique course to Beth Morris Workshops that you won’t find anywhere else in Cardiff.
