You may have a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) an injury to the brain caused by a trauma to the head (head injury) or an Acquired Brain Injury(ABI) where brain injury has occurred since birth, or illness as well as tumour, stroke, brain aneurysm or haemorrhage, encephalitis, hydrocephalus.

Sketcher Squad is a weekly series of art workshops designed especially for children with brain injuries! In this vibrant and inclusive environment, young artists are encouraged to explore a variety of techniques and mark-making methods, using an exciting array of art materials. Each session is filled with creativity, fun, and the opportunity to make new friends who share a passion for art. Our supportive community celebrates every child's unique expression, fostering joy and connection through the transformative power of art. Join us to discover the endless possibilities of artistic creation and the joy of connecting with new people. These workshop will allow you to interact with others who have experienced something similar and give you time to reflect on your own experience and express yourself in a creative safe space. Every week will be different. Every week will be fun!

Background Information:

Words from our present funder / collaborator Rhiannon Stokes of Stokes Case Management about our adult classes that have been running for 6 years “The artistic results of the students in such a short time of learning are pretty incredible! Beth’s guidance has drawn out hidden talents as she has encouraged and gently pushed the artists to challenge themselves and try new things. She has also enabled them to see what might be perceived as an error, can in fact be turned into something beautiful. The classes are calming and encourage the artists to be still, to focus, and forget about everything else. One ‘Sketcher’ described the classes as a ‘spoonful of honey’ and they count down the days until their next meet. Confidence within The ‘Sketchers’ group has increased, not just in their abilities but also in working as a group to inspire each other.”

See the website homepage to watch our BBC - The One Show film showing the group in action.

We are so excited to offer a similar course to children and young people. Sharing this creative learning experience will prove to be beneficial with some great arty crafty skills learnt, memories made and friendships created.
