Doodle Stitching with Jessica Grady (mixed age)
12th July 2025
Saturday
10:00-4:00
This workshop caters for tweens (11+) teens and adults. It’s an opportunity for inter-generational family members to stitch together. A great parent/grandparent/child workshop, but equally perfect for friends any age, or just come on your own and make new doodle and stitch friends.
Workshop Description:
Join artist Jessica Grady for a relaxing and creative day exploring creative doodle stitching. Creating a doodle stitching cloth is a lovely way to experiment with hand embroidery stitches, different yarns, wools and threads and creating patterns and doodles on your fabric fabric background. It's a fun way to stitch as there is no set pattern, and the doodle stitching evolves and grows as you add your stitches and threads to the fabric, it's about enjoying the process of hand stitching!
The day will begin by preparing your doodle stitching background with some patterns on fabric bases using paints, stencils and mark-making tools. This gives you a starting point for stitching later on in the day! Then whilst the backgrounds are drying Jessica will demonstrate a variety of her most used, simple yet versatile embroidery stitches for you to try on a small sampler. Then when you move onto your main doodle stitching fabric, Jessica will give you her best tips and tricks for layering your stitches, building patterns and textures on the surface, and doodling with your needle and thread to create a unique doodle stitch artwork. Jessica will have lots of her artist samples and doodle cloths to inspire you throughout the workshop, and will also be bringing along her selection of recycled threads, ribbons and yarns for stitching with. This class is suitable for all abilities whether you are completely new to hand stitching, or someone who would like to experiment and try out something new!
